The differences among celebrating Christmas time in the English – speaking countries

You let everybody choose a free topic and I would like to speak about Christmas and its comparison among some English – speaking countries like the USA, England, Scotland and Australia and the Czech Republic. When I was a small girl I loved Christmas very much. I enjoyed every minute of it, but from the time my father is dead I don’t like it as much as before. This shocking event has changed my life, feelings and mood from the basis. During this time when families are joined together I missed him very much and I still realize how important position he played in my life. Christmas is a Christian holiday. For centuries most people in this country went to church every possible day, especially Sunday, they believed in God and celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas. Most people today don’t visit church, but they still keep the Christian tradition, Christmas is a special holiday for them, when relatives meet and families sit around the table and have nice time. Sometimes it seems to me that they celebrate Christmas just because of getting presents and having a lot of food on the Christmas table and fun rather than celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.For most Czech people Christmas time starts on December 5th, when St. Nicholas, angel and devil visit families with small good as well as naughty children and get them small presents like chocolates, fruit, sweets or coal and potatoes according to their behaviour during whole year.
